Not only does ITCS research and implement innovative technology tools for the ECU community, project requests are also submitted by individual campus departments. Short, easy-to-accomplish projects use available resources, but other projects are more involved, requiring cost analysis, committee approvals, pilot projects and more. Always with an emphasis on cost-effective project management, ITCS considers both long- and short-term benefits of requests and advises accordingly.
Two ways we're able to effectively oversee projects are the Enterprise Project Management (EPM) online system and appointment of one project manager for each request. This ensures administration support, alignment with ECU's strategic priorities plus adherence to UNC policies and regulations to achieve each project's objectives.
The Enterprise Project Management (EPM) online system tracks, manages and shares with the ECU community all current and completed IT projects. Through the EPM system, IT demonstrates timelines, costs, status, overall purpose and supporting documents for major projects by IT area. Not only does this tool improve our communication externally, it is key for the management of these projects internally as well. There are two ways to see a list of IT projects:
Each major IT area has an appointed project manager who delegates tasks and advocates external projects. Most importantly, the project manager follows the project until completion.
