What made you choose ECU?
I have been involved in the construction industry my entire life because of my father’s career in the industry. I actually started my college education at another school, but after my brother came to ECU to study construction management, and I couldn’t decide on a major at my school, I transferred here into the program. I am very proud of the construction management department, and I am very proud to be part of the Pirate Nation.
What would you tell someone who was considering attending East Carolina?
Take every opportunity given to you. If you are able to study abroad, take advantage of it. If there is a club or sport you are interested in, participate in it. You don’t want to graduate wishing that you had taken an opportunity.
You recently participated in a study abroad program. What was that like?
I really want to travel, and so I saw this as a really good opportunity to do that, and also to go study with a bunch of students who are in my program, from teachers who are in the program. I think in a lot of study abroad programs, you don’t have that. You are with a bunch of kids from other universities. This trip was a good opportunity to get to know the kids from our school who I didn’t really know before, and also to get to know my professors. I think that doing a study abroad program definitely widens your world view. For me, just meeting people from different countries—in China there were so many people from all over the world. We got to talk to them and learn about their world view. I think getting to interact with those people is great.
Upon graduating, what will you miss most about ECU?
My friends, the many social events that take place all year long, football games, and the freedom that college has given me.
