Disability parking is located in all areas of campus in accordance with NC G.S 136-30 and the American Disabilities Act. Signs are posted which designate parking spaces for handicapped persons and state the maximum penalty for parking in the space in violation of the North Carolina law. Individuals authorized for handicap parking may also utilize other zones and spaces according to their permit type. ECU permitted vehicles may also park in metered spaces without activating the meter if all handicap spaces within the needed area are occupied.
N.C G.S 20-37.6 states that it shall be unlawful:
- to park or leave standing in a space designated with a sign for handicap parking, any vehicle not displaying a distinguishing license plate, removable hangtag, or temporary removable hangtag;
- for any person not qualifying for the rights and privileges by the unauthorized use of a distinguishing license plate, removable hangtag, or temporary removable hangtag; and
- to park or leave standing any vehicle so as to obstruct a curb ramp or curb cut for handicapped persons. Vehicles found in violation of the above regulations will be cited and/or towed at the owner's expense.
