||Fred Schadler was raised in West Virginia. After high school he served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Utah, and Thailand. After the military he earned a BS degree in Accounting from West Virginia University and upon graduation moved to Charlotte, NC and worked for an international public accounting firm as a staff auditor. Following the accounting experience he worked for Korf Industries holding positions as senior financial analyst, internal auditor, and cash manager.
Following this industrial experience Fred earned his MBA from UNC-Charlotte in 1980 and then taught in the Economics department at UNCC for 3 years. From there he went to The University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC and completed his PhD in finance in 1987. He has been in the Department of Finance at ECU since 1987 and has taught primarily Investment courses but has also taught numerous other finance courses.
Fred is recognized for his teaching and was awarded the East Carolina University Robert L. Jones Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dr. Schadler's research interests have led to articles appearing in such academic journals as Financial Services Review, Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics, and Journal of Accounting Auditing and Finance.
