Mapping Buddhism

Mapping the Buddhist Holy Land

Buddhism emerged in the Gangeatic Plain and the Himalayan foothills in the fifth century BCE, spreading throughout much of India in the following several centuries and throughout the far reaches of south, central, and east Asia in the next millennium. This project utilizes the methods of the digital humanities to map the emergence, development, and spread of Buddhism within the central Buddhist Holy Lands in India and Nepal.
