Interest Meetings

The Department of History actively works with current and potential students to help them understand their degree in history. The department hosts two annual meetings for students, one in the fall and one in the spring. The meetings differ in the types of materials covered to better prepare students for the semester.

Fall Interest Meeting:
The fall interest meeting works to prepare students who are entering the major and who are wanting to learn more about not only the degree, but about the department. 

*The Fall 2017 Interest Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 28th in Brewster D202 from 4:00-5:00PM. Make sure to get there early to grab your slice of pizza!*


Order of Speakers/10-minute sections:
1.            Introduction: Dr. Christopher Oakley, Chair of the Department of History
2.            Degree Options: Dr. Timothy Jenks, Undergraduate Director
3.            Phi Alpha Theta/ Service: Dr. Wade Dudley, Faculty Supervisor
4.            Career Options: Mr. John Stowe, Career Services point of contact for Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences
5.            Scholarships & Internships: Ms. Mia Thompson, Administrative Assistant

Spring Interest Meeting:
The spring interest meetings works to prepare students for their journey post-graduation through mini-lectures with representatives from Career Services and our graduate programs.

Order of Speakers/ 20-minute sections:
1.            Introduction: Dr. Christopher Oakley, Chair of the Department of History
2.            Using Career Services: Mr. John Stowe, Career Services point of contact for Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences
3.            Graduate Degrees in History and Maritime Studies: Ms. Mia Thompson, Administrative Assistant
