Congratulations on your acceptance to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University! Applicants who receive offers of admission are invited to take a Second Look at the Brody School of Medicine and the Greenville community Friday, March 28th through Saturday, March 29th, 2014.
The Second Look weekend will be filled with opportunities to meet current students and faculty, as well as explore the Health Sciences campus and the community of Greenville. Potential matriculates are encouraged to attend Second Look in order to learn more about the mission of the Brody School of Medicine and to determine if the Brody School of Medicine is the right fit.
The Second Look event begins with check-in and dinner at the Brody Medical Sciences Building. This will give the participants an opportunity to meet and mingle with their potential future classmates and several of the current Brody medical students. Dinner will also feature a welcome from Dr. Peden and a Highlights of Brody video produced by BSOM students to showcase many of the school's features and accolades. After dinner, the entire group of Second Look participants is invited to Winslow's Deli
, Tavern, and Market for a dessert social.
On Saturday, participants will have breakfast with Brody School of Medicine faculty and administration at the new, state-of-the-art Family Medicine Center
. Afterwards, potential matriculates have the opportunity to hear presentations from speakers emphasizing the highlights of attending Brody including, but not limited to, the small class size, community preceptorships, a commitment to diversity, and academic excellence. Groups of medical students will host breakout sessions about first year summer experiences, diversity, as well as a session highlighting the framework of our new REACH program. A student panel will provide a unique perspective on student life and allow participants to ask questions that only medical students can answer. Following the panel, the group will move to the beautiful Laupus Library
for an organization fair where representatives from different campus groups will be on-hand to offer valuable information about their respective organizations, and a research symposium that will showcase the opportunities for research during the four years at Brody. The day will end with an activity in the Medical Simulation Lab
and a tour that will highlight several gems of the medical campus, including the East Carolina Heart Institute
, the newly-opened Pediatric Emergency Department.
The dress code for Friday is casual. Saturday, participants are asked to dress in business casual attire, with comfortable shoes.
Invitees may bring up to 3 guests, at a cost of $25 per guest. Parents, spouses, and significant others are welcome. Children may come, but there will be no childcare or programs for children available. Guest payment is due by Tuesday, March 18th, 2013.
