The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) is located in Greenville, North Carolina, a charming college town situated in Eastern North Carolina. Pitt County was founded in 1760 and is located in the Coastal Plains section of North Carolina on the banks of the Tar River. Greenville, the county seat, is halfway between Raleigh, the state capitol, and the Atlantic Coast. The yearly average temperature is 60 degrees, with averages of 83.8 degrees in the summer and 46 degrees in the winter. Average annual rainfall is 46.7 inches. Housing is plentiful and affordable, both near the medical center and in numerous home and apartment developments around town. With a city population of about 85,000 and a surrounding metro population of 183,000, Greenville retains a small town feeling while offering the educational, cultural, and entertainment opportunities of a university town.

ECU, a member of the University of North Carolina system, is the second largest undergraduate institution and third largest overall in the state. The student enrollment for 2013-14 was 21,298 students.ECU offers eight doctoral programs, over 70 master's degrees, and more than 100 baccalaureate degrees. The university has highly-regarded schools of nursing and allied health sciences, family nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs, as well as schools of education, business administration, music and art. Without smog or excessive traffic, you can enjoy theater or concerts featuring accomplished actors and musicians. Furthermore, ECU is an NCAA 1-A member in all sports and will become a member of the Big East in the fall of 2014.
