The ECU School of Dental Medicine enrolled its first class of pre-doctoral students in 2011. Our faculty, staff, student, and patient populations are growing rapidly as we live out our vision to educate the next generation of primary care dentists with a focus on serving rural and undeserved areas of North Carolina.

Our school’s hub is Ledyard E. Ross Hall on ECU’s Health Sciences Campus in Greenville. This 188,000 square-foot facility is named for its benefactor and retired Greenville orthodontist Dr. Ledyard E. Ross, ECU class of ’51. Ross Hall houses state-of-the-art learning halls, simulation labs, patient clinics, clinical research areas, and faculty and administrative offices.
Across North Carolina
The State of North Carolina has funded the ECU School of Dental Medicine in building Community Service Learning Centers (CSLCs) in rural and undeserved areas across the state. CSLCs in Ahoskie and Elizabeth City currently serve patients. CSLCs in Sylva, Lillington, Spruce Pine, Davidson County, and Robeson County are in various stages of construction.
Community Service Learning Centers are staffed by full-time faculty, residents, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and business staff. Beginning in 2014, pre-doctoral students will join the CSLCs and gain hands-on experience treating patients and engaging in service learning in the communities where they will live and serve.
Apple Corporation named the ECU School of Dental Medicine an Apple Distinguished Program due to the innovative implementation of technology in student learning and teledentistry.
