Dr. James Ward is a North Carolina native and was raised in Bertie and Scotland Counties. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. Throughout his 13 years of service, Dr. Ward was stationed at Shaw AFB, SC (1998-2005), Sheppard AFB, TX (2005-2009) and McChord AFB, WA (2009-2011) performing jet engine maintenance on A-10 Thunderbolt and C-17 Globemaster aircraft. His special assignment as an instructor at Sheppard AFB, TX led to his future career path in education. During that assignment, he had an introduction into technical education, curriculum development and educational management.
After his separation from the USAF in 2011, Dr. Ward was hired by Pitt Community College (PCC) in Winterville, N.C., as a 12-month general education faculty member and as the coordinator of the newly formed Arts and Sciences Student Success Center. There, he had the responsibility of coordinating all academic advising activities for first-year students in a centralized advising center. He was later recruited to help develop and implement PCC’s new Student Success Navigator program for first-year students.
Dr. Ward has been married to his wife, Belinda, since 1998 and they have one son, Brandon. He is an avid outdoorsman who has a passion for hunting, fishing and baseball.
