Dr. Margaret B. Wilson was appointed Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the East Carolina University School of Dentistry in November 2009. She is responsible for the recruitment, admission and graduation of students who possess the aptitudes and skills to be highly competent, ethical health care professionals who are prepared to assume leadership positions within the communities they serve.
Dr. Wilson received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. She subsequently earned the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981. After completing a one year General Practice Residency at the University of Maryland Hospital in 1982, Dr. Wilson entered private dental practice in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Following four years in private practice, Dr. Wilson accepted a position as Director of Dental Services at the Student Health Center at University of Maryland at College Park. While at College Park, Dr. Wilson also earned a Master of Business Administration degree at the University.
Dr. Wilson joined the University of Maryland Dental School faculty in 1990 as a General Practice Manager. In 1993, Dr. Wilson was appointed to an administrative position within the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs where she served as Associate Dean until 2004. From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Wilson held several administrative positions, including Associate Dean for Professional Programs and Associate Dean for Student Affairs. In 2006 she was also appointed Co-Director of the Group Practice Simulation, a demonstration project within the clinical area. In 2008, she resumed responsibilities as a full-time clinical faculty member. Additionally, from 1995 until 2009, Dr. Wilson directed the Professionalism and Professional Dental Ethics curriculum for the dental students.
Dr. Wilson and her husband Guy Wilson have one son, Alex, a college student.
