The ECU School of Dental Medicine Community Service Learning Center (CSLC)–Spruce Pine is currently under construction at the site of the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine who serves as the ECU partnering institution in the region. The CSLC will serve as an extension of the Greenville, N.C., based School of Dental Medicine where fourth year pre-doctoral students and Advanced Education in General Dentistry post-doctoral residents will complete their clinical requirements while providing general dental services to the patient populations in the region.
Once completed the CSLC will provide general dentistry services to both adult and pediatric patients in a state-of-the-art facility in which a business manager, dental assistants, dental hygienists, front desk administrative personnel, faculty dentists, adjunct local and specialty practitioners will team up to carry out the dual mission of the CSLC which is education and dental services. The CSLC itself will be a 7,700 square foot facility with 16 operatories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including a wheel chair lift, which will be utilized in a special needs operatory devoted to taking care of wheel chair bound patients, 3D imaging and an endodontic microscope. The CSLC-Spruce Pine will be one of eight to ten CSLCs constructed throughout the state.
