ECU Physicians is proud to offer neurology care to patients. Neurologists are specialists who treat conditions of the brain, spinal column or nerves. These conditions can affect people of all ages, causing pain, weakness, imbalance, or mental difficulties, such as memory loss.

If you have a neurological disease, you may have trouble with movement or thought; with seeing, touching, hearing or other senses; with swallowing; or with moods or memory.

ECU Physicians Neurology is at the former East Carolina Neurology practice, a long-time community-oriented medical office that opened in 1977. Since then, the physicians of East Carolina Neurology have worked with the Brody School of Medicine and Vidant Medical Center to provide consultations and care for patients throughout the region. In July 2013, it became part of ECU Physicians.

The practice has a wide variety of services, including MRI, in a relaxed, comfortable setting with 24,000 square feet of office, consultation and treatment areas. Because neurological conditions affect every part of the body, it is important to have the special tests to diagnose them. More than 600 neurological diseases may affect patients. They include:

  • genetic disorders such as Huntington's disease
  • conditions related to nerve death (degeneration) such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's
  • infections such as meningitis
  • seizure disorders such as epilepsy
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • headaches
  • neck or back pain
  • carpal tunnel
  • sleep disorders
  • neuropathy
  • cerebral palsy
  • vertigo or dizziness
  • tremors
  • stroke
  • injuries to the brain and spinal column
