‘WHAT YOU WEAR’ Researchers study the impact of young students wearing lab coats

An East Carolina University researcher is looking into how elementary school students view themselves as scientists and engineers when wearing lab coats. Dr. Tammy Lee, assistant professor of science education in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Instructional Technology Education in the ECU College of Education, has teamed up with colleagues at N.C. Alumnus Levy Brown named vice president of student services at Vance-Granville Community College

Alumnus Levy Brown has been named vice president of student services at Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson effective May 15. Brown received an ECU 40 Under 40 Leadership Award in 2016. The Division of Student Affairs created the awards in April 2015 to recognize emerging leaders who received their start at ECU as well as those who have used their ECU experiences to make significant impacts in their professions, communities and in the world. ECU Special Education Alumna Breaks World Record

ECU alumna, Lauren Ball ’15, recently orchestrated the creation of the largest human puzzle piece in the world,   breaking a Guinness World Record. Lauren is currently an Exceptional Children’s Teacher at AG Cox Middle School, in Pitt County where she teaches students with autism and is part of the school’s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Team.  Lauren organized the event with the help of her school and community, to spread autism awareness during the month of April as part of National Autism Awareness Month.  For many Continue reading →

Dr. Vivian Martin Covington and Dr. Crystal Chambers have been named 2017 Women of Distinction at East Carolina University.

The College of Education’s Dr. Vivian Martin Covington and Dr. Crystal Chambers have been named 2017 Women of Distinction at East Carolina University. Covington, executive director of undergraduate affairs and educator preparation, and Chambers, associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership, were two of 10 women honored in a ceremony April 4. The awards are given every other year by the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women to recognize the outstanding contributions of faculty, staff, alumni and community members to East Carolina. Lara Brickhouse
Group names ECU graduate national teacher of the year in adapted physical education

Lara Brickhouse ’05,’13 has been named the 2017 national teacher of the year in adapted physical education by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America). Brickhouse teaches in the Durham Public Schools in nine schools: Little River School, E.K. Powe, Hope Valley, Bethesda and Eno Valley elementary schools; Lucas and Lowe’s Grove middle schools; and Northern and Riverside high schools.
