Abstract ECU faculty in Education and in Arts & Sciences are collaborating with Pitt County Schools and Greene County Schools to develop and implement a comprehensive research-to-practice reform model to recruit and retain qualified teacher candidates, especially from underrepresented populations and to develop and implement coursework reforms that involve content modules, model lesson plans and exemplar curriculum units that lead to the consistent and coherent integration of content knowledge and pedagogical skills.

Abstract The high quality academic programs engaged in AIMHi are well poised to address the workforce shortage for behavioral health providers in underserved rural communities and connect AIMHi interns directly to the children and families who most need behavioral health services. By expanding field placement sites into communities with low numbers of health service professionals as well as strategically connecting with Hispanic/Latino and African American families, the AIMHi program will directly address behavioral health disparities in rural eastern NC and will contribute evidence-based strategies for training and service provision.

Abstract We propose to recruit 30 science, mathematics, and engineering majors over a three-year period. The science and mathematics education majors will be enrolled in either a master of arts in teaching (MAT) program (for one year) or the last two years of an undergraduate program. These 30 mathematics and science teachers will be prepared and mentored to meet the needs of students in high-need districts in eastern North Carolina school districts.
