Email Archiving

The Online Archive folder allows easy organization of your ECU email. Create folders in this 100GB folder, then drag and drop items from your Inbox, sent items or an Outlook Personal folder. The Online Archive folder is available in Piratemail (Mac and Windows) and Outlook (Windows only) and is subject to the ECU email expiration process. You control the items stored here.

The Online Archive folder is not available to retired employees or non-employees with email accounts.

How Can You Use the Online Archive Folder?

  • Create subfolders
  • Drag and drop items to free up mailbox space
  • Drag and drop items from an Outlook personal folder for anywhere access
  • Create an Outlook rule to automatically move certain emails to the Online Archive
  • Search the Online Archive folder the same as any other mail folder

Online Archive vs Outlook Personal Folders

Outlook client. Mail items saved to a personal folder in Outlook reside on that laptop only and are not accessible from the web. Personal folders are not part of the email expiration process.

The Online Archive folder - yourPirateID@ecu.edu is part of your Office 365 account and accessible from your computer's Outlook or the web. Items saved in the Online Archive folder are subject to ECU's email expiration process.

Piratemail. Piratemail is the web version of ECU email. Personal folders are not available through Piratemail as they only reside in the Outlook client on your computer.

Items saved in the Online Archive folder are available to both Mac and PC users through Piratemail. The In Place Archive - Your Name folder shows beneath your Inbox on the left. Again, items saved in the Online Archive folder are subject to ECU's email expiration process.

Mobile email. Neither personal folders nor the Online Archive folder is available through mobile email.
