Free Weekly Clinics

 
Weekly Bike Repair Clinics - FREE!

Enjoy the warm weather by cruising around town, the greenway, or the bike trails from Ocracoke Island to Raleigh Greenways.

Tuneups are offered by professional mechanics every Friday. All you need to do is drop by with your bike. Indepth repairs may require going to a full shop.  Brakes, shifting, general tuneups are currently capable onsite.

Location: Front of the Student Rec Center (or in case of rain, loading dock of the SRC)
Time: Finished for the fall semester. Will resume Friday, March 21st 2014
Cost: FREE!

 
Weekly Kayak POOL Sessions
Learn to paddle or roll a whitewater or sea kayak with our friendly staff. In this relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere, we will teach you different paddle strokes, ways to roll your boat back up right, teach kayak rescue skills and even play kayak games.

All equipment and instruction is provided. Come for 20 minutes or stay for 2 hours! No experience required.

Weekly Belay Clinics

Belaying is the process of using a rope, a special rope device, and other equipment to keep the climber safe. The belayer uses this equipment to catch, hold or lower a climber if they fall. Learn to belay so you can climb without needing to wait on our staff or so you and your friend can climb together.

No experience needed; includes equipment. Walk-ins welcome.

Learn to Climb/Climb Safe Clinics

Learn the skills necessary to safely take your indoor climbing outdoors. Take each one once, or multiple times.

All clinics are free and offered every Monday and last about 2 hours.

Climbing Movement & Technique

Do you layback? Stem? Mantle? What are you doing with your hips? How is your climbing posture? Improve your climbing ability, climb harder and longer by learning proper technique. Geared towards people new to climbing through the intermediate climber wanting to climb harder.

Sport Anchor Building & Cleaning

On many cliffs, you must climb up to the anchor, bringing the rope behind you, rather than always having the rope above you in top rope configuration. Learn how use a sport anchor to take your climbing a step further.

Cleaning & Rappelling

Once you know how to build a sport anchor and lead, you need to know how to get down without leaving gear behind. This two hour, hands on clinic teaches several methods for removing equipment safetly from the anchor and then how to slide down the rope. You want to know how to do this right.

Top Rope Anchor Building

The best & cheapest way to start climbing outside is with a top rope anchor configuration. This anchor configuration secures your rope above you as you climb; failure of this anchor is not an option.  Under the expert instruction of our climbing staff, learn how to safely, easily and confidently make a top rope anchor.
