Placement Tests

Purpose of Placement Tests

Placement tests ensure that you start your courses at the correct level. Please read below to determine if you are required to take the placement test.

Mathematics

Placement for math courses is now based on SAT, ACT, or AP Calculus exam scores.  Please visit http://www.ecu.edu/cs-cas/math/upload/NewMathRequirements2017-2018revised4-25-2017.pdf.

Students dissatisfied with their initial math course placement my opt to take the Accuplacer placement test.  Please see http://www.ecu.edu/cs-cas/math/upload/NewMathRequirements2017-2018revised4-25-2017.pdf.

Foreign Language

If you studied a language in high school, you are encouraged to take the foreign language placement test. All students must take placement test to enroll in Spanish, even for those with no prior experience. The Spanish, French and German foreign language placement tests are administered online. Other languages may be possible by special arrangement. Students who place into 1002-1004 will, upon successful completion of that course, be given credit for lower-level courses.
