Are you a student worker creating surveys for a faculty/staff member or a department?
If yes, the survey should be owned by the faculty/staff member. You should still create your own Qualtrics account, but the ownership of the survey can be handled in one of two ways:
As an alternative to Qualtrics, ECU now offers REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture), a secure, HIPAA and FERPA compliant, web-based application for building and managing online surveys and databases. This software can be used for research, operational, and quality improvement studies with the appropriate approvals. Vanderbilt University developed REDCap and the software and support is available at no charge to institutional partners: ECU is a member of the REDCap Consortium.
ECU houses REDCap (the database and servers), which means that all the data is secure within ECU’s IT infrastructure. For more information about REDCap, visit our REDCap information page. If you would like a demo of REDCap, please submit a REDCap Support request.
Qualtrics is NOT APPROVED for the collection or storage of institutional (HR & Financial), FERPA, HIPAA, or sensitive data. DO NOT COLLECT institutional, FERPA, HIPAA, or sensitive data using Qualtrics.
East Carolina University requires that all data collected or stored in Qualtrics meet federal, state or industry requirements. As a research best practice, all sensitive or confidential research data should be de-identified prior to collection or use. Please follow IRB research guidelines and contact the ITCS Help Desk at 252-328-9866/800-340-7081 to request an IT Security consultation if you have questions concerning appropriate protocols for the collection and storage of sensitive or confidential data.
In addition to the above regulations, YOU AGREE NOT TO USE DATA that includes, but is not limited to, the information below:
