East Carolina continues to lead the state’s 47 public and private institutions of higher learning in preparing the state’s public school teachers, administrators and counselors, according to data released by the State Department of Public Instruction.
A total of 17,660 current educators received undergraduate or graduate degrees from ECU.
In second place is Appalachian State University with 17,437 graduates in the public schools.
Other leading campuses in teacher education are UNC-Greensboro with 10,773, UNC-Charlotte with 8,352, and UNC-Chapel Hill with 7,901.
“It’s nice to see East Carolina score No. 1 on this report,” said Marilyn Sheerer, dean of the ECU School of Education.
