Due to impacts from the winter storm, all classes are canceled through noon Thursday, Jan. 23.
Employees should observe Condition 2 of the University Adverse Weather & Emergency Event policy through 11a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. Supervisors may deem certain employees mandatory based on university needs. Non-mandatory employees may telework from home during a Condition 1 or 2, with supervisor approval. Employees should check with their managers regarding schedules and alternate work locations. For information on condition levels visit the adverse weather page on the Department for People Operations, Success and Opportunity (POSO) website.
NOTE: Avoid campus roads and walkways due to hazardous conditions and to allow work crews access to clear them.
Conditions experienced by individuals will vary, and everyone is responsible for their own actions and safety.
Road conditions are expected to be hazardous. Stay off the roads if possible. If you must travel, consider traveling on major roads that have been treated and cleared by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The latest road conditions can be checked at https://drivenc.gov/. Slick spots may develop on elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses; motorists are urged to use caution if you must travel. When traveling stay alert, avoid cellphone use, leave early to allow for additional travel time, reduce speed, increase following distance, and be patient.
Pedestrians need to use additional caution, watch for slippery areas, use crosswalks and wait for vehicles to come to a complete stop before crossing the road. Slippery conditions will make it difficult for vehicles to stop quickly.

ECU Health Physicians (Academic) clinics will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 22 and until 10 a.m. on Jan. 23 for in-person patient visits; providers will convert appropriate pre-scheduled appointments to virtual. Staff should not report prior to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23 to allow parking lots to be cleared or notify their supervisor. ECU Health Physicians (Academic) clinics have the following special hotline available for patients and staff: 252-744-5080 or 1-800-745-5181. Staff should check the hotline prior to coming to work.

East Carolina University officials continue to monitor an approaching winter storm for the Greenville area. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Greenville/Pitt County beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, through 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. Snow accumulations of 2-3 inches are expected to impact Greenville with totals increasing toward the coast with up to 6-8 inches for some areas.

ECU monitoring winter weather
Winter Weather Advisory: Plan weekend travel accordingly
The Greenville area is forecasted to experience strong winter conditions beginning Friday night into Saturday morning, potentially leading to slippery road conditions and an increase in roadway hazards due to rain, ice, and snow.
To accommodate students and families coming from western North Carolina and areas where winter weather is expected, ECU’s residence halls will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9.
If you travel to campus this weekend, plan your trip during the late morning or early afternoon hours, when temperatures are expected to rise above freezing and road conditions are anticipated to improve.
For your safety, please check weather forecasts and road conditions along your entire route and identify the safest times to travel during this storm system. Check forecasts frequently as conditions can change rapidly.

ECU Alert – Timely Warning – Motorized Scooter Thefts
The ECU Police Department is investigating reports of motorized scooters being taken from bike racks around main campus. To date, four individuals reported that their motorized scooters were taken by what appears to be the same group of perpetrators. Two motorized scooters were reportedly taken during the early morning hours of 11/11/2024 at the bike rack near Ballard Hall West, two motorized scooters were taken in the early morning hours of 11/13/2024 (one from the bike rack near Scott Hall and one from the bike rack between College Hill Suites and Tyler Hall). Locks have been broken to steal some of these scooters. There may be other victims that have not yet come forward. If you have information about these thefts, contact ECU Police (252) 328-6787.
While these thefts are larcenies by North Carolina state statute, they are considered motor vehicle thefts under the Clery Act.
